Kinesio Taping
Tattoo or Tape?
You may have noticed hundreds of athletes sporting Kinesio Tape in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. But you may not have known exactly what you were seeing… Many people actually mistook the tape for tattoos!
What is Kinesio Tape?
Kinesio Tape is a super thin tape made of a porous cotton fabric with medical grade acrylic adhesive that allows the skin under the tape to breathe and be cleaned while showering.
What does Kinesio Tape do?
During treatment, Kinesio Tape is placed over and around muscles to assist and provide 24 hour-a-day support and stability without reducing circulation and range of motion.
The tape affects the activation of the neurological and circulatory systems. Because muscles control the circulation of venous and lymph flows and body temperature, a variety of symptoms result when the muscles fail to function properly.
Put simply, Kinesio Tape provides a source of outside assistance to muscles, joints and other tissues, with the goal of treating the muscles in order to activate the body’s own healing process.
What is Kinesio Tape used for?
Kinesio Tape is applied over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, to relax overused and tired muscles and to support muscles in movement. It can be used to enhance muscular facilitation as well as to treat the following conditions, among others:
- Ankle sprains
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Knee conditions
- Lower back pain and strain
- Muscular inhibition
- Patella tracking
- Pre- and post- surgical edema
- Rotator cuff injury
- Shoulder conditions
- Tennis elbow
